Diary Entry #25
22 June 2007
Hi all!!
Thanks for reading again.
This week I have been on the media trail again. We went to Sydney to ABC radio and did some interviews and performed “Little Circle”. Two of the boys from my band, James and Duncan came in with me and played guitar and sang beautiful harmonies.
I have met so many people who heard it!! It’s amazing because we were just sitting in the studio for about half an hour mucking around, playing the song a few times and then the next minute we did the interviews and recorded the song live and it goes out to millions of people!!!! I wasn’t really thinking about that when we did it!! It just felt like another run through!!! I guess I would have been too nervous if I really thought about all the people in their cars or homes listening!!!!
My Dad came with me and sat in and listened. It always amazes him how different my world is to his!! Dad is a builder. I think he thinks it’s illegal for people to have so much fun when they work!!! Don’t get me wrong, Dad loves his work but he can’t help but notice that there is a lot of laughter and joke telling in my world!!!
I asked Dad to drive me down to Sydney because of all the wild weather we have been having. I was a bit nervous to drive in the storms!! (though it ended up being fine!!)
Then the next day we went to Sydney again and I filmed some more episodes of “20 to 1”. I did the ones about top karaoke songs, top love scenes, top songs with a story and the most annoying songs!!! It was fun!!! Keep an eye on channel 9 in August for the show.
I have been preparing for the John Williamson tribute show at Tamworth in July. The Songbirds are on and we are all madly learning our songs. I am singing “Purple Roses”, “Salisbury St.”, “Galleries of Pink Galahs” with Beccy Cole and Sara Storer and one more we haven’t decided on yet!!! Lots of learning!!!!
Today was just a pretty regular kind of day. Jackson had music lessons (which he refused to join in with!!!!! Little bit of bribing was required from the Mummy!!!) Then we went grocery shopping together which is always a challenge with a 4 year old!! He was just beautiful as long as I kept feeding him in the shopping trolley!!! He likes to lie in there and take up the whole space so I just kept stacking things carefully around him until one little boy nearby said to his Mum, “Hey Mum, look at that squashed little kid!!” So I took him out and let him push the trolley for a while. He almost ran over an old lady so he then hung on to the front of the trolley so we could make a quick escape back to the car. Almost there, I breathed a sigh of relief as our expedition was coming to a welcome end. Well Jackson decided to hop off the trolley without any warning! I then accidentally ran over his foot!! He cried! I cried!! Then when we got home, he ran straight up to my Mum and said, “Nanna, my Mummy ran me over with the shopping trolley!!”
Ahh a wonderful day all in all!!!
So here I am, little one tucked in, dishes all washed and tidied up, and I think I should just go to bed before anything else happens!!
It’s just one of those days all us Mums have sometimes!!!!
And I am glad it’s over!!!
I am off to bed now so until next week!
Live well, Laugh often and Love much
Love Gina x

I am really and truly grateful!!!!

Diary Entry #24
12 June 2007
Hi everyone and thanks for reading again!
I had a pretty normal and quiet week last week, which was wonderful!!
I have been really enjoying cooking for a house full and trying out lots of new recipes! My current fave is green prawns cooked in herbs fresh out of my garden with some garlic, olive oil and salt and pepper with a dash of sweet chilli sauce. I stir it through angel hair pasta and it is delicious!!!! I put it with some stirfried bok choy and green beans in hoi sin sauce and it was really yum!!!
It’s amazing when the simple pleasures of life can excite you so much!!!
Oh also last week I was really excited to find a shower cleaner that really works!!! Ha Ha!!! (It’s the one that says that on the front!!!)
Ah I really do love being a domestic goddess in training!!!!
Then I got back to my career!!! Lots of interviews for press and advertising up and coming Songbird concerts.
We then headed up to Nelson Bay for their Country Music Festival.
We very nearly didn’t make it!!
I don’t know if you have seen on the news or not, but we have had some horrific weather here!! Storms, wind, floods, everything!!
We left for the show on Saturday morning and couldn’t believe our eyes as we drove through some of our nearby suburbs. There were trees down everywhere. Some through houses. Water on the sides of the roads that looked more like lakes than puddles. Houses under water!!
It was just awful!
We took off and as usual, my car was on empty so we went to get petrol only to find all the petrol stations were shut because there was no power!!
We were worried if we went too far, we would be stranded, so we rang Caltex and found one open!!!
Then we arrived in town (staying with my husband Rod’s parents who live there) and we were just sitting around having a nice chat, and the power went out!!!
Well of course I hadn’t ironed anything, couldn’t even find where everything was!!!
I did my makeup with a torch!!!! (Very horror movie!!!) and hoped for the best!!
We then headed down to the club and I continued to get ready backstage (in a teeny dressing room with every man and his dog!!)
Then of course there was no toilet back stage so I had to weave my way through the packed house, only to get my very expensive heels stuck on the drain of the rest room!!!
Shoes ruined I walked backstage and pretended like nothing had happened!!
I kept thinking at least it wasn’t as bad as the time I was on stage and the fire escape alarm went off while I was singing, “Two Stars Fell”. (Do you remember this story??) I said to Beccy Cole and Sara Storer who were watching me suffer from the dressing room, that the loud screaming siren was called a “Goodometer” and it only goes off like that if you are really good!!! Ha Ha. We laughed a lot!!! (And I think I saved myself from what could have been a very embarrassing situation!!)
Anyway. At least it wasn’t that bad!!
The show itself went really well and I really enjoyed getting to do a full concert with lots more new songs off my new album, “Walks of Life”. (When I sing with the Songbirds, I don’t get to do that many songs, so it was a lovely change for me and the band!)
The lovely Aleyce Simmonds opened for me and she was just amazing!! Then I was lucky enough to have her come and sing in my band!! Oh she gives me goose bumps she makes the harmonies sound so beautiful!!
Then we had Sunday off with the in laws and really enjoyed a day off with the family!!
Everyone of course was worried about us on the road, but we had a really easy trip home!! (We weren’t far from where the road fell away last week and a family of five perished, so you can imagine how much my Mum was worrying!!)
And on the subject of my Mum, she is recovering very well after her major surgery!!
We are all thrilled!!
Anyway, our little boy is upstairs singing himself to sleep and you know how much I love Desperate Housewives, so it’s time for me to go to bed and settle in for some fun TV!!!
Until next week!!
Live well, Laugh often and Love much!!
Lots of Love
Gina x
