Diary Entry #53
November 2009
Hi everyone!
Where is this year going???
I can’t believe it’s already November and our little boy is almost at the end of his first year of school!
Wow!
We have been working hard on his school performing arts concert.
I am in at his school 3 days a week teaching the kids to sing and perform and I love it!
So rewarding, seeing them realise they are really good at something.
Jackson has a few roles in it playing the drums and hip hopping!!
It’s a Michael Jackson tribute so our house is so full of MJ music!
I’ve also been out on the road a lot (and much more to come this year) touring with the Songbirds.
We have had some wonderful shows all over the country. I think my favourite so far was the show in Darwin. I don’t know what it was that made it feel so special but it just all clicked for us!
We had a packed house and a full standing ovation at the end!
It is such a thrill to get one of those!
Sara and I both welled up! (Beccy had something in her eye I think!!)
I guess it felt particularly emotional because we have decided that these next shows over the rest of the year will be our last.
It’s been a period of 3 years that we’ve been touring as the Songbirds and we never imagined it would go so long and be so successful. We initially got together just for a few shows and look what happened!
(N.B I am trying my hardest to not do too many exclamation marks, because last time Beccy (Cole) counted them and let me know it was an astonishing number!!!!!!)
Well if you knew me in real life you would know that I speak with exclamation marks in my voice too!!
(I am very excitable!)
(Counting Beccy??)
Well my most exciting news this month is our puppy has been born!
Very excited!! (I think I am more excited than Jackson!)
He is sooooo cute. He is cream with a goldy brown patch over his eye and darker ears as well. Very curly coat. He’s only 3 weeks old.
We get to meet him next week and he comes home around early December.
Jackson has named him “Fender” (after the guitars)
This weekend I am on tour, and at home we will be having a little working bee with my gorgeous husband (great musician, husband and Daddy, but terrible handy man!!) and my Dad (who is a builder) building a fence for Fender.
We don’t know too much about dogs but have some wonderful friends and neighbours who are giving us great advice.
I still wish they could invent a dog that doesn’t poo!!
I am very scared about picking up the poo!
(Just saw a great pooper scooper in the pet shop down the road that has kind of teeth on the front like those bull dozer thingys that pick up things. I have all the technical jargon down obviously!)
Well it’s that time of year that if you’re a country singer, you have to start planning for the Australian Country Music Festival in January at Tamworth.
I have some very exciting news about my concert but I don’t think I can tell you just yet. As soon as I can I will.
Keep an eye on the CMAA site for shows and tickets.
We are also planning our fanclub morning tea there too. Maybe a change of venue. We will keep you posted. This will be our 10th morning tea I think.
Thank you to all of you who come along.
Don’t forget that if you are at the festival, make time to come to our morning tea. (I think it will be the Thursday morning)
It’s always fun and very intimate. You can have a cuppa with us and ask us (Rod and me) to sing any song you want, ask any questions and just hang out and have fun.
Anyway, I must be off!
Going to have lunch with my best friend Nat. (Since we were 11)
She will have some great puppy advice for me!!!
Until next time,
Live well, laugh often and love much.
Lots of love
Gina x
